Boardroom Revolution

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010 by nicole

I was reading my Time magazine last night and came across this article about the shift in women CEOs and Board members. There are countries that are actually legislating more equality. There is a new wave of women in the boardrooms of European corporations, which are being prodded by both legal and social pressure to add women to their boards. Norway has mandated that 40% of directorships go to women — a legal quota that other governments also are rolling out.

It seems that there is a shift happening around the world to change the way our corporations and governments are run. Mind you earlier yesterday, Obama announced another woman for the supreme court, Elana Kagan. That same evening I saw Tom Brokaw interviewing two women who held the two top seats at a major Fortune100- Anne Mulcahy and Ursula Burns, chairman and CEO, respectively, of Xerox Corporation. He asked about the changes that occurred in the boomer generation and whether they thought these positions were possible when they were growing up. I then read an interview with Kraft CEO, Irene Rosenfeld. These are the first women that are really setting the stage for a major transformation of the work landscape. The amazing thing is, they are everywhere.

I sometimes forget that when I was in grad school, not too long ago, almost no one had a cell phone. Now they are so ubiquitous that we have to consciously make a vow with Oprah to set them aside for more important things such as driving. I wonder if I’m already taking our female presence for granted.

With less than 11% of these positions held by women, we’ve still got a ways to go. Yet, based on these articles, I wonder if our daughters, or perhaps my generation in 20 years will be called in to fill a female exec quota. Who knows, perhaps there is a major shift and change happening around the world that will make the gender discussion a mute point. At that point, will we paid $1.20 to the man’s dollar?

This is another article along the same lines that’s quite interesting when it comes to shifting the gender balance at major corporations. http://www.20-first.com/538-0-gender-balance-in-the-fortune-100.html

Moving from Jewish and Catholic to Connected…and a response from Rabbi Rami Shapiro

Straight from Spirituality and Health’s site… to read other questions go to their site..

Hello Rabbi Rami,

I knew you as a child in Miami and am so excited to see you here. Real simple, how do I support my Jewish mother by acknowledging the holidays when I find more in the language that doesn’t resonate than does. I have a hard time believing we’re still slaves in Egypt or chosen for that matter. And although I know we should remember, I feel we’ve been reinforcing an identity of victim. In fact, I created a game called Shift that shows us that our thoughts create our reality. You can play a demo at www.shiftthegame.com.

So, how do I acknowledge my heritage and support my mom when I feel I’m moving further from my religion? My answer was to acknowledge the holiday my way and let go of my mother’s vision of what a good jew looks like. I chose to acknowledge what I wanted to let go of from last year and what I wanted to bring in for the new year on Yom Kippur. I made a brisket too. And yet, I do not see myself as Jewish anymore. I see that as limiting. I’d rather be a citizen of the world. I guess it’s being detached from the other person’s expectation. Did I just answer my question?

It’d be great to hear from you though. Blessings and love,
Nicole

Rabbi Rami Shapiro: You are not alone in this. Lots of Jews find the Judaism of their parents irrelevant to their lives. It may well be that your mother felt the same about the Judaism of her parents and grandparents.

There are two issues here, and you already grasp them. First, there is the matter of being a dutiful daughter. Second, there is the matter of being true to oneself.

I suggest you do what you already seem to be doing: reinventing Judaism for yourself. For example, Passover is about liberating oneself from Mitzrayim, literally the narrow places in which one is enslaved. Everyone can relate to that. And Yom Kippur is about awakening to your oneness with God.

Recently I spoke with one of my spiritual teachers about the challenge of identifying with one tribe or another in a world that needs to become increasingly post tribal and global. He said I was putting too much drama into a word. Being a Jew, he told me, is just another garment we wear. Put it on and take it off as seems appropriate.

I do not look forward to a homogenious world, a world without diversity. I have no problem with people belonging to different tribes, religions, etc. as long as we realize these are garments, and beneath them all we are all equal manifestations of God.

The Day Shift, June 9th, Denver

Join us for the “Day Shift”

Perhaps you’ve heard about Shift, the game that shows us why we do what we do.
Perhaps you’ve played the game with your friends and you called each other on your “Shift.”
Perhaps you’ve even attended a Shift Circle and have had a chance to work your mental muscles and connect with other people that are making a shift.

Or maybe you’ve never heard of Shift, yet you’ve heard someone say, “Our thoughts create our reality” and think hey, there might be something to that.

Whether you’ve experienced Shift or not, Summer’s almost here and that means play time! It also means getting in shape. Now’s your opportunity to take your workout to the next level. If the Shift Circles are the Gym for the Soul, then the Day Shift is 5 hours with a Personal Trainer. We work you from the inside.

By the end of The Day Shift you will:
- Understand the three Shift Principles and how they apply to every one of your relationships and experiences
- Be able to clearly identify your Core Beliefs and how they came to be
- Understand how your Core Beliefs run your defenses and see how you can drop them
- Be able to apply the Identity Formula, Thought + Feeling = Behavior, to any situation
- Be equipped with the Shift tools that support you in shifting all of your relationships to equal relationships
- Have insight into why you keep repeating the same situations and see exactly what’s driving your behavior
- Have played Shift and connected from a heart level with other people who are making Shifts in their personal lives and their communities
- Not only know why your friends and family behave the way they do, you will know yourself better than ever before.

Yep, the summer’s almost here and that means fun. Who better to spend it with than that part of you that knows you are whole, complete and loved, that part of you that is pure joy.

Will this be an intense workout of your mental muscles? Yes
Will we expose those pesky voices in your head and support you in operating from a place of love? You bet.
Will we allow you to keep playing The Controller, The Pleaser, The Conditional Giver or the plain old Victim? Not a chance.

Get your ego to the gym and kiss it goodbye!

Gym location: The Oxford Hotel (tentatively), Denver
Date: Saturday, June 9th
Time: 10 am to 4 pm, lunch break from noon to 1
Commitment: $150
To register: Call 303-530-0787

Work the Day Shift so you can let go of what’s working you.

Shift Circles are the place to apply the concepts in The Secret

Wednesday, February 21st, 2007 by guest

“The Secret” is about the law of attraction. It says our thoughts create our reality. Shift shows us exactly what those thoughts are. We get to see what’s holding us back from our full potential and why we keep attracting the same situations. Shift shows us why we do what we do and allows us to see that one small shift in thought can shift our lives.

Shift Circles are gatherings of people ready to make a shift. Shift Circles are the place to work your mental muscles so that we can live from a place of love. The evening includes space for networking from the heart, game play and each month we’ll focus on a new muscle and do some dedicated exercise around it. We’ve already worked Gratitude and Trust, come see which muscle we’ll tone in March.

You’ve seen The Secret, now apply the lessons to your life with Shift. “The Secret?”
COME PLAY WITH US! Tuesday, March 13 at Tattered Cover, Highlands Ranch, 6-9 pm. Space is limited so we suggest reservations at CIRCLES@ShiftTheGame.com or call 303-666-0168.

Mark your calendars for up-coming Shift Circles:
Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at Tattered Cover, LoDo, 6-9 pm
TBA April, 2007 at Flatirons Borders Bookstore in Broomfield and Translations Gallery in Denver

2007 is off to an amazing start!

Tuesday, January 30th, 2007 by nicole

We’ve had so much going on lately… we had an amazing evening playing Shift with some of Colorado’s top executives from companies such as Crocs, Corporate Express, Bowne, Mclain Finlon, WorldWit, Entercom, Strategize & Organize, Sassy Martini Radio 107 FM, at the owner of SieGal Media, Candy Campbell’s stunning home. Be on the lookout for the upcoming article and series in Colorado Company Magazine.

We just exhibited as a feature presenter at the World Wellness Weekend. There were incredible keynotes from T. Harv Eker and Jean Huston. We got to connect with amazing people including Mark Victor Hansen, Reggie Rivers and Rod Smith. We’ve had so much fun meeting and playing Shift with everyone.

We had our first Shift Circles of the year last night at the Tattered Cover and started to work our mental muscles by conditioning our Gratitude muscle.

LOTS GOING ON… and I have so much to write about… yet there’s much to do… so I’ll leave you with this. It was the closing meditation we read last night. It is our new Shift Meditation that we read to acknowledge the work we’ve done. Enjoy.

The Shift Meditation
I am abundance, joy and peace.
And I acknowledge all that I am.
I Trust, I am open and I live in gratitude.
And I acknowledge all that I do.
I am complete and know I need ask and I’ll receive.
And I acknowledge all that I have.

I am loved and I know that loving is my purpose.
I am a catalyst for change and my shifts start within. I walk in triumph for I have made a choice and the choice I’ve made is Love.
