Food Matters

Friday, December 10th, 2010 by admin

I had the good fortune to get very very sick. During that process, I became allergic to a number of foods. I learned about nutrition and the effect that food has. I went through a serious detox and now, 6 months later, I’m still eating healthy… because I enjoy it! I’m no longer addicted to sugar and bread and alcohol and all those other fun carbs. I’ve stopped eating dairy and rarely have meat or gluten. There a radical difference in how I look and more importantly in how I feel.

I just came across this series and the information is fantastic. Here’s a note from Alex Ortner and a great video that explains the importance of what we eat…

The other day I mentioned the film “Food Matters” and how I
consider it along with our film “Simply Raw” to be a film
that everyone should see if they care about their health.

James and Laurentine, the producers of the film, gave me an
8 minute clip to share from the film that I think you’ll enjoy.

It’s the first 8 minutes of the film so I think it will give you a great
idea as to what you’re getting…

I’ve posted the video on our blog. Just click on the link or
the image below to see it now:

Election Day- Go Vote!

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008 by nicole

I just heard about this rapper- MC YOGI. This is an amazing song with parts of Obama’s speeches.

And this is his even cooler song. It’s called Be the Change- about Gandhi.

It’s always something

Thursday, May 18th, 2006 by guest

I always thought that life would be easier when all my children left home. We would have quiet dinners, leisurely walks and travel on the weekends. That is not necessarily true as my husband and I found out this year. From taking in Grandma for a few months to taking in a friend for the summer, our lives have been crazier then ever. Or is it? All kids and a spare have come home for the summer. As I scramble working, preparing meals for seven, laundry (it never ends) and keeping a semi-clean home I often have to remind myself that my reality is what I make it. It is either very hectic or I can change my thinking in that I am blessed to have so many people sharing my home with me. I choose the later. So can you.

wise words to take with you.

nicole –

i love the show grey’s anatomy –
and i love many of the quotes – this one is about fear and is about mistakes but most of all it’s experience.

you have the experience to back your word, you’ve learned from our mistakes and from what worked and didnt.

go big nikki, go big.

i’m with you – k

“A couple of hundred years ago, Benjamin Franklin shared with the world the secret of his success. Never leave that till tomorrow, he said, which you can do today. This is the man who discovered electricity. You think more people would listen to what he had to say. I don’t know why we put things off, but if I had to guess, I’d have to say it has a lot to do with fear. Fear of failure, fear of rejection, sometimes the fear is just of making a decision, because what if you’re wrong? What if you’re making a mistake you can’t undo? The early bird catches the worm. A stitch in time saves nine. He who hesitates is lost. We can’t pretend we hadn’t been told. We’ve all heard the proverbs, heard the philosophers, heard our grandparents warning us about wasted time, heard the damn poets urging us to seize the day. Still sometimes we have to see for ourselves. We have to make our own mistakes. We have to learn our own lessons. We have to sweep today’s possibility under tomorrow’s rug until we can’t anymore. Until we finally understand for ourselves what Benjamin Franklin really meant. That knowing is better than wondering, that waking is better than sleeping, and even the biggest failure, even the worst, beat the hell out of never trying.” meredith grey

I’m always open to learning

Tuesday, March 14th, 2006 by nicole

If you’ve noticed it’s been a while since I’ve written. We’ve been busy dealing with of all things, change. Constant change. Just when I thought I’d worked to my capacity, I’m required to step it up another few notches. Well, I’m getting much much stronger. We’ve been focusing on sales and I’m excited to say that we’ll be doing some cool things with Wild Oats coming up and we got in with Deepak Chopra’s center.

I’ve been so focused on sales and the window of opportunity…not sure if i’ve mentioned how I funded this endeavor myself… that I had to be reminded last night to play the game. I’ve been operating from fear… mainly working from a belief that there’s a lack of time and money. Everything needs to happen yesterday.

In doing that, I was reminded what the true purpose of the game is. Yes I want to get it out through all these distribution channels and get people to buy it. I’ve been pretty focused on what’s the quickest turn around, where’s my lowest hanging fruit and although that is necessary, the truth is there are so many people that not only get the game, they could benefit from it. That’s really who I created the game for first. People that are in need of transition, who want to make a change.

Just a little heads-up for me as of late. Of course I’d love to get into Starbucks and be the next Cranium. Today I’m going to shift my perspective and focus on the organizations and women’s group that I can support and see what shows up.

Sometimes it takes me a while to listen and sometimes it takes me a while to see… yet I’m always open to learning…

Enjoy Today

Shift is in the stores. Shift has gotten press. We are getting orders on our website. The word is getting out. The holidays are gearing up. I took a bath last night. I’m working at 6:30 am on Sunday, but I know that it is worth it. I’m stressed, I’m happy; I’m getting stuff done while the rest of the house is asleep. No matter what the day brings, I will enjoy it because I can.

Coming to a Store Near You

Saturday, October 22nd, 2005 by nicole

Last Friday we started our first sales calls. It’s been over 4 years since I’ve sold a product… or worn anything close to professional. I must admit I had my concerns about whether I had it in me anymore. In recent years I’ve gone to networking events where I’ve been more than happy to support a wall in the corner instead of working the room and collecting business cards like the old me.

Turns out I still got it. The truth is, selling is easy when you’ve got a compelling product. Since last Friday, we’ve been picked up in The Boulder Bookstore, Atmosphere in Boulder, Om Yoga, McGuckins and The Tattered Cover. Shift circles or game nights will take place at the Boulder Co-Op and The Unity Church in Boulder is incorporating Shift game nights into their weekly Course in Miracles study groups. I must say, having Unity implement a game night into the Course in Miracles study groups really got me. I almost shed some tears during my meeting. Oh and did I mention that last week we got a letter from Marianne Williamson giving us permission to incorporate some of her content and oh yeah, we met Deepak Chopra!! This is what the last 2 weeks have been like. We’re cookin! and we’re having fun. I’m amazed by the response we’ve had so far and am so thankful that people are receptive.

I’ve been working on this for four years and even though I just pawned off all my gold jewelry today for extra spending money and tried my hardest to make my clothes seem like great consignment pieces, it’s all been worth it. I am so thankful for the people that have shown up to support our project… I am plain ole grateful…. and I am super excited. We are just a few weeks away from getting our first run back. I can not wait to hold this game in my hands.

A year ago, the game was still an idea. When my chiropractor, Dr. Pete, would adjust me, I’d deal with my anxiety by visioning something great. Although my “adjustment visions” were often scenes on a far away beach, more often than not, the thing I visioned most was seeing the game. I remember when I would try to see the vision- I’d try my hardest to see the board or the box… little by little the vision became more clear. On the scary neck adjustments, I would vision the game on some store shelf. For so long, I had no idea what it would look like. Well, within the month, I will actually see that box sitting on a store shelf.

Amazing.

I’m jazzed…

Reasons people are playing

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2005 by nicole

Reasons people are playing:

  • It is fun and interactive
  • It gives you insight into what is driving your behavior
  • It allows you to learn about each other, share and get better connected even if you’ve never met
  • It creates an environment for open discussion on topics that might not have come up otherwise
  • Because knowing you are at choice creates power
  • Shift creates a deeper level of connection when you play with people you already know such as your family, your partner and your friends
  • To determine what’s holding you back from your full potential

“We do not see things as they are. We see them as we are.”    The Talmud

The game and your life are mirror images.

Playing Shift enables you to see why you think and act the way you do. Once you can step back and see how your mind thinks, you can take charge and let it work for you.

Now you have an opportunity to take your learning and apply it to your life.
It’s easy to win at a board game.
The question is, can you play the game in your life?

In other words…can you shift your game?

Brian Andreas, Life Going Perfectly

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2005 by Kristen

I was looking for a nice quote to send my roommate off to India with and I was looking through my favorite artist, Brian Andreas, quotes and found this one and thought it applied: "feels like some kind of ride but it’s turning out just to be life going absolutely perfectly…" I look at all of the ups and downs and inbetweens we’ve been through lately and cant help but stop at that and smile. We are doing what we are doing for a reason. And we may be going crazy, but it’s for a purpose and a greater good I believe. So apparently life is going perfectly…
